Margareten used to be known as a typical workers’ district. In this district, one can find some charming inner courtyards that are being put to stylish and idyllic use, particularly by restaurants. Compared with other districts, Margareten boasts fewer attractions yet captivates through its exceptionally favourable central location within Gürtel Ring Road as well as through the availability of large volumes of residential space. The area around Naschmarkt, Vienna’s largest public retail market, is particularly popular. It was planned by Otto Wagner in the early 20th century and today marks a hot spot for gourmets.
